abstract

conclusions our study shows a relationship between cimt and renal parameters, including egfr and albuminuria. this study confirms the importance of intensive examinations for early detection of atherosclerosis and treatment of risk factors. patients and methods this cross-sectional study was included 205 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (t2dm). we recorded clinical and biochemical data such as fbs, lipid profile, and urinary albumin. intima-media thickness of carotid arteries was measured in all patients by high frequency ultrasound. results in simple correlation coefficients analysis, cimt was significantly associated with total cholesterol (r = 0.197, p = 0.008), serum creatinine (r = 0.240, p = 0.001), and urinary albumin (r = 0.420, p = 0.000). also, cimt elevated significantly with the stage progression of chronic kidney disease (0.67 ± 0.15 mm in stage 1, 0.73 ± 0.22 mm in stage 2, and 0.82 ± 0.21 mm in stage 3) (p value = 0.024). in multivariate linear regression analysis, the duration of diabetes, weight, hdl, serum creatinine, urinary albumin, and estimated glomerular filtration rate (egfr) were independently associated with cimt (p value < 0.05 for all). background atherosclerosis is the main cause of cardiovascular diseases, and its risk enhances in type 2 diabetes mellitus. objectives this study aimed to evaluate carotid intima-media thickness (cimt) by carotid artery ultrasonography and assess its correlation with microalbuminuria and estimated glomerular filtration rate (egfr) in the patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

The Association of Glomerular Filtration Rate with Coronary Artery Disease in Type 2 Diabetic Patients

Objective: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and diabetes mellitus can influence coronary artery disease (CAD) independently. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and CAD in type 2 diabetic patients (T2DM). Materials and Methods: This cross sectional study evaluated 3624 T2DM patients with clinical presentation of CAD whose documents were registe...

Effect of Taurine on Carotid Intima Media Thickness in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Background : Carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) has been proposed as a surrogate marker to identify diabetic patients at higher risk for CAD. Oxidative stress has been postulated to be involved in the development of atherosclerosis. Objective: The present study was to evaluate the effect of taurine on serum lipids, lipid peroxidation and RBC antioxidant status and vessel changes in type 2dia...

Association of postprandial hypertriglyceridemia and carotid intima-media thickness in patients with type 2 diabetes.

OBJECTIVE Serum triglyceride levels are important in the development of atherosclerosis. Although triglyceride levels are generally increased in the postprandial periods, the association between postprandial triglyceride (pTG) levels and atherosclerosis has not been investigated in diabetic patients. To investigate the role of pTG levels in atherosclerosis, we examined the correlation between p...

Carotid intima-media thickness in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with cardiac autonomic neuropathy.

INTRODUCTION Cardiac autonomic neuropathy (CAN) is an important complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Accelerated atherosclerosis is also common in T2DM. Carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) is a surrogate marker of atherosclerosis. We conducted a study to assess the CIMT in T2DM patients with CAN. METHODS In 84 T2DM patients cardiac autonomic function was assessed by five clinica...
